A marriage biodata is the one-page introduction families exchange before a first meeting: who you are, your education and work, your family, and — depending on your community — horoscope details. It decides whether the first call happens, so it is worth doing properly.
What goes in a marriage biodata
Six sections, in this order. Leave out anything that doesn't apply — a section you skip looks deliberate; a section filled with "N/A" looks careless.
- Personal details — full name, date of birth (with age), height, religion and community, diet.
- Horoscope details — time and place of birth, rashi, nakshatra, gotra, manglik status. Common in Hindu biodatas; Muslim and Christian biodatas simply omit this section.
- Education & career — highest qualification with institute, current role and city, income if you choose to state it.
- Family details — parents' names and occupations, siblings and where they are settled, family type (nuclear/joint).
- Contact — a parent's or your own phone number and city.
- Partner preference — two or three lines, specific but not a shopping list.
