Hindu Marriage Biodata Format
A Hindu marriage biodata uses the standard six-section format and adds a horoscope section: exact date, time and place of birth, rashi, nakshatra, gotra and manglik status. Families use these for kundali matching and gotra checks before agreeing to a meeting. Everything else — education, family, contact — is the same as any biodata.
The horoscope section, field by field
| Field | What to write | Why families check it |
|---|---|---|
| Date, time & place of birth | 27 Sep 1998, 07:25 am, Jaipur | Needed to cast the kundali for gun milan |
| Rashi | Tula (Libra) | Moon sign — part of the 36-guna match |
| Nakshatra & charan | Swati, charan 2 | Birth star — also used in matching |
| Gotra | Kashyap | Many communities avoid same-gotra marriages |
| Manglik | No / Yes / Anshik | Some families look for a manglik match |
| Gana & nadi (optional) | Deva · Antya | Two of the eight koota checks |
Write the time of birth exactly as it appears in the family's horoscope. If you're unsure, leave the field out rather than guessing — a wrong birth time produces a wrong kundali.

Regional differences
- Maharashtrian families usually add blood group, gana, nadi, devak, kuldaivat and the maternal uncle (Marathi format).
- Tamil and Telugu families often attach the jathagam chart itself and list rasi, nakshatram, padam and lagnam on the biodata (Tamil format with sample).
- North Indian families commonly add the family's native place and community or sub-caste in the personal section.
- Jain families write the sect (Shwetambar or Digambar) and diet in place of most horoscope fields (Jain biodata format).
For the rest of the biodata, follow the standard marriage biodata format, with the specifics for a bride or groom.

Frequently asked questions
What horoscope details go in a Hindu marriage biodata?
Date, exact time and place of birth (needed to cast the kundali), rashi, nakshatra with charan, gotra, and manglik status. Some families add gana and nadi. Include only what your family actually uses for matching.
Why is gotra mentioned in a Hindu biodata?
Many Hindu communities avoid marriage within the same gotra, so families check it early. If your community doesn't follow gotra rules, you can leave it out.
Is a kundali necessary for a Hindu biodata?
No. Many families today match horoscopes only after the first meeting, or not at all. If yours doesn't, drop the horoscope section — but write the time and place of birth if the other family is likely to ask.
Which god's name goes at the top of a Hindu biodata?
Most commonly ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥, or the family deity. It's a custom, not a requirement — the free maker lets you pick a header or none.
